“The world is as beautiful as our eyes are”. This statement is applicable to every single person living on this planet earth. So while there are many of us who can enjoy the warmth of sunlight on a cold winter day and go out on the beach on a sunny day, there are many of us who don’t know the difference between good and bad and are as innocent as a new born baby. These people with some kind of disorder such as any brain injury or learning disability often live their whole life unknown to the world and any chances of leaving their impressions in this world are almost zero for them. There are institutes to take care of them but their sole purpose is to build a different world for them. They are rarely encouraged to engage with others and that’s why Planner Guide is recommended to them.

Planner Guide is the new iOS app that has been developed by Web Ascender. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 5.1 or any later version of the OS. This is the mobile version of their web application to make it more accessible anywhere.

Planner Guide consists of 135 different reference guides where each reference guide is a combination of text and visuals depicting what to do in a particular case. The main problem with persons with disability is that they are not good at decision making. So these guides take them step via step from causes to the solutions. For example, if you want to make new friends, you must know what a friend is and how to behave with them. A friend is a good person you like being and you should say “Hi” to them when you meet them. So this is very basic and easy to understand. But with 135 guides, they have covered every single possibility from emergency via communication to technology.

The Personal section contains every little detail related to you. You can add your disability, strengths, dreams, hobbies, fears, etc. In fact, there is a calming page where you can add images and documents that please you so that if you’re upset or sad, you can take a look at them. They also provide you person centred plan which will depend upon your requirements. You can take print outs of any page if you want. Using their calendar feature, you can set tasks and you can schedule your days as well. So the application can work as a reminder/to do list as well.

Overall, Planner Guide is really a very good app as it deals with the complex problems in a very basic and easy to understand language. Even if the person is not well educated, still their graphics can prove very useful. The app is free but only for seven days and that too without the ability to print any of the pages and after that you’ll have to buy the paid version which is available for one year. So make sure you check it out and if you like it, you can buy it.

Pros: intuitive UI; easy to understand language and graphics; 135 reference guides cover almost every single topic; free.

Cons: none.

I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
