Have you ever played the classic game called “Qix”? I’m sure there will be many raised hands behind the screen, but I’m also aware of the fact there would still be some shy eyes hidden behind the curtain who haven’t heard of it before. So let me tell you what Qake is all about. You start with a cursor on a blank rectangular screen and you have to form a closed space which will be counted as “occupied”. Following the same steps, you have to enclose at least 75 percent or the prescribed amount of space and your level is complete. Sounds pretty easy, right? But actually there are three hurdles: a qix, spark and the fuse which are single-handedly more than difficult to get pass by in one attempt. So let alone fighting them all together. There’s another game that you might be able to recollect from your memories called “Snakes”. Can you mix them both for me? Okay, leave that. I’ll do it for you!
I’m talking about the latest iOS app called Qake that has been developed by JandH. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 7.1 or any later version of the OS. This app has also been optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Now, as I’m talking about a mixture of Snakes and Qix, it’s already exciting. But Qake will surpass all the hype and expectation. Now, let’s hear what’s different in this one. First, the basic concept is same as that of Qix as you have to cover the area. But the enemies are very different in this case. We have some balls and bombs that are always ready to spoil your game and even the slightest of their touch is enough to guarantee that. So it’s obvious that you have to avoid them all. You cannot go through them neither can you allow them to cross across your unoccupied path because if they do; your game is over right at that instant.
The villains here are much dynamic and different than what we’re familiar with. For example, the balls can accommodate many different qualities like variable speeds and sizes. So while Qix used to get boring in the later stages when you knew each and everything about the game, here the suspense is always alive and you never know which black box is going to open next!
The graphics of the game are amazing. They aren’t too rigid for that rectangular framework, nor are they too glittery for such a game. It’s a perfect blend of simplicity and elegance. The swipe controls make sure you get-off easily with the game. But before you pick this game up, let me warn you! It’s one of the most addictive games I’ve ever played. It’s like alcohol and I really “mean” it! In fact, while writing this review, I’m still sipping it up in-between and I can’t resist playing it again and again. So if you’re up for that challenge, you must check out Qake. Also, you can challenge your friends for a match.
This app is available for $0.99 in the App Store. So make sure you check it out today!
Pros: alcoholic gameplay; dynamic balls and bombs; randomized level generator; challenge other players.
Cons: none.
