How much do you know about Edinburgh? Apart from the superficialities that it is the capital of Scotland and the name of its Rugby team is Edinburgh Rugby (quite obvious), do you know anything that belongs deep down the roots of Edinburgh? For example, when was the Holyrood Palace built? Which is the oldest bank of Scotland? What was the most significant event in the history of Scotland that took place in 1880? If you have the slightest of curiosity to know answers to all these questions, then don’t follow me. Instead, download this app called Timeline Trip Edinburgh and you’ll find your answers right there.

Timeline Trip Edinburgh is the latest Android app that has been developed by CARBONBYTE Ltd. The app is compatible with all the Android devices running Android 2.3 or any later version of the OS.

Now before you make any presumptions regarding the layout and concept of the app, let me tell you that this is not a Question/Answer app. This is not a quiz as well. But yes, it certainly helps you gather a great amount of knowledge; knowledge that you’ll be able to grasp and hold on to for your lifetime. So how does it do that?

Timeline Trip Edinburgh actually takes you through all the events that happened in Edinburgh in the course of time, starting from as early as 1567 i.e. The Stuart’s Edinburgh. It’s like a journey that you’re on with this app, going through the change with each step telling you a new story. You’re like travelling in a street and Edinburgh is under construction around you. As you move ahead, time changes and the Edinburgh you left behind is very different from the one you’re watching at the moment.

The app contains maps belonging to the different periods with major sites and buildings pointed on them. Just tap any of them and a complete article will roll out describing everything about that particular building. It can be the Canongate’s Tolbooth or Castle Esplanade or The Tron Kirk or the famous Bank of Scotland. There are so many architectural sites that you’d feel as if you’ve just reborn in Edinburgh and this whole place is completely unknown to you. After all, there are so many old sites that you’ve never seen and are new to you.

The app gives you many different ways to find what you want. You can either choose a particular year, or you can pick things from map directly. There are so many stories to read with such beautiful images that you just can’t get enough of it. Using GPS, you can locate yourself on the map and find out what happened at that place in the past.

Overall, Timeline Trip Edinburgh is a beautiful, illustrative and interesting way to get to know about your past. But even if you’re not a native of Edinburgh, this trip is worth a travel!

The app is available for free in the Play Store.

Pros: beautiful images; interesting stories; periodic maps; historic sites; well sorted out interface; free.

Cons: none.
